Default 3speed standard trany

trying to put trany back in, doesn't want to go in all the way...I am outside on my back trying to lift it and get into place, everything is clear, just doesn't want to go in..do I need to put grease on the tip of the trans, I am ready to smash the trans, is there a secrete, please help, thank you

NO grease. Did you put a new clutch in it? Thay make a dowl with splines on it where you can line up your clutch disk, Advance or other parts stores have them, Make sure you get the one of your year firebird. Line that disk up first and it shoud go right in. Good luck.

I did not change the clutch, just slid tranny out from motor, cause couldn't get shifter to shift, stuck in one gear., think I got it fix, took out tranny last year, and it slid right back in, not sure what the problem is, will keep working at it...

Have you tryed to let the engine up or down a little? Is the tranny hiting the top of the floor, Do you have the shifter off the tranny? It has been many years sence i have done one.

haven't tried moving engine yet, probably if I get help, it will go in, kind of heavy by myself, friend coming this week, see what happens...will reply how I made out...

tranny is in, drove car in garage to work on during summer, I am sure I will be asking more questions on the bird. thanks guys pete
