Have any of you ever owned a classic and got rid of it because you couldn't afford to fix it?

When I was 16, my parents bought me a 1975 Pontiac Firebird for $500. It only needed a rear quarterpanel on the drivers side because the owner ran into a mailbox trying to avoid hitting another vehicle. It had a 250 6 cyl. in it with a 2 bbl carb, 4 on the floor. My dad and I were going to drop a 350 V8 in it. We found a 350 V8 and double hump heads for $400. My dad went to pick it up and we were getting ready to be on our way to fix it up. I was getting ready to devote lots of time to rebuild the engine and dress it up with chrome valve covers, new intake, and such. We were going to put dual exhaust on it as well. We only got as far as buying the engine. My dad decided that we couldn't afford to fix it up and that it would be too much car for his 16 year old son to handle. I guess that is called kicking myself in the @$$.

My friend's got a 1968 400 pontiac. The engine has been slightly modified, got real problems when over the yeras, valve train began to create noise. So it's a mechanical problem, and I was thinking maybe he has an extra heavy valve springs that is causing rapid wear on the push rods. Perhaps you could sell the car.
