I have a 97 2.2 sunfire. I recently noticed that at idle and out of gear a light knocking sound coming from the front. You can hear it inside as well as outside although neither is really loud unless you pop the hood. As soon as you push in the clutch over half way it stops. Theres also a slight popping in the clutch everyonce in a while when downshifting and Ive noticed the shifts are getting a lil stiffer sometimes. Im thinking its the throw out bearing I had an izuzu rodeo make the same noise although it didnt go out untill the noise got really noticable but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Just noticed that your note got a lot of hits but no replies.
I have a 2001 Sunfire that has 251,000 kms (160,000 miles) and the gear shifter is just starting to really stick (OK, it's JAMMED solid sometimes). It used to do that only when it got very cold outside, but it's doing it all the time now. I don't know if I'm gonna get to work on Monday.

Do you still have your '97 and did you get your problem resolved?

maybe its just the trannys getting all old and worn out. i dont see how a clutch could be making that sound..however i could be wrong.
