Every morning when I go out to start my car, it turns over like 40 times before it starts.  Any idea where to start?

Are there any codes being generated?
If you dont have a way of reading the PCM codes yet you may be able to borrow/rent a scanner from one of your local auto parts stores.
You need to look into getting your own scanning and programing device or software if you plan on keeping the car and not wasting $$ running to a mechanic everytime the SES light makes an appearance.
www.carputing.com sells LT-1 Edit software (i have used this for several years) and they have a link to where you can purchase the connecting cable.
Software and cable set me back $350, money well spent in my opinion as it has paid for itself long ago saving me about $50 for each time my SES light came on.
How many miles are on the car?
The Optispark units are very prone to failure and could be the source of  your problem. They are kind of expensive and take some time to replace so you need to do some checking before jumping in and replacing it.
