One of the most frequently asked questions about the V8 305 or 350 Firebird or Camaro is Why is it running so hot? or Why does it overheat?

Most of the time, changing the Thermostat and gasket is the trick, However sometimes the electric fan may not be coming on to cool the motor. Before butchering your wiring for a switch try these steps-

Making sure your fan works to begin with-

If your car has Air Conditioning, simply turn the AC on. The fan is supposed to come on with the AC no matter what temperature the engine is.

If your car doesnt have AC,or if the previous method didn't work, cut the fan wires and jump them to the battery.

If the fan still doesnt work

Replace the sending units-
One of them is located next to the water neck, sometimes there is one ON the waterneck. The actual FAN TEMP SWITCH is usually located underneath the passenger side exhaust manifold.

Keep in mind, the stock fan switch from a parts store will still make the fan come on at 240*, which is very hot. However, companies like Jegs carry 195* fan switches which will solve this problem, once and for all.

Any further questions on this, feel free to email, PM or get me on AIM.
