gasket and timing chain questions

Default gasket and timing chain questions

The water pump housing that connects to the block is the place were my gasket is blown. Taken all bolts out, and the only thing holding it on is a one inch bolt on a disc at the bottom of the housing that goes to the timing chains. Should I take it off or not?

be careful to see how everything is lined up prior to pulling things off...

tHERE S\HOULD BE 2 DOTS ON THE UPPER AND LOWER GEAR THEY SHOULKD BE LIND UP AT EITHERTOP OR BOTTOM BEFORE TAKING OFF GEAR THEN REASSEMBLY REVERSE

THAT IS ON PONTIAC ENGINE NOT CHEVY.
