strokin an early 70s 350
hello all, I have a couple of pontiacs,my question is in regards to my 72 firebird espirit. it was an arizona car so its in pretty good condition except for all the rubber and plastic pieces that were killed by the sun .:)
the car has an early 70s low output 350/2 barrel that actually runs fairly decent. the previous owner had siezed up the nom motor from overheating. it resides on my garage floor. I plan on tearing down the shortblock and having it tanked and scoped to check for cracks, and see if its rebuildable. if it is,...because of the rust Im sure I will have to bore it a bit to clean up the cylinder walls. If I put a 400 crank in that 350,how much overbore would I need to make that engine into a 389, or 400 for that matter? I know those blocks are all mostly the same. Being an espirit, this car will never be a high dollar car like a T/A or Formula,I have been thinking of resto moding it actually to include a 4 spd automatic. having the nom engine in it would be cool. also,if I do stroke this engine a bit, what heads would be best? I would appreciate any and all input thanks monte 1972 firebird 2006 GTO 2001 bonneville |
Get a crankshaft from a Pontiac 455, have the machininst grind down the journals to fit your block.
