can't get my valve cover off
 

i have a 96 grand am with the 2.4 engine. i am trying to remove my valve covers so that i can diagnose a noise coming from underneath them. it kinda sounds like the cam tensioner cog fell off the tension arm and is rubbing on the chain or something. anyway, on this model, it appears that i have to remove the timing cover and the power steering pump to access the valve covers and remove them, correct? thanks... any advice?
