Car Cuts Out When Driving

I have a 1996 GTP Grand Prix with a 3.4L engine. The carcuts outwhen I'm city driving andstarts up again. Also when I start the carand let it idlethe rpm's go up and then comedown slowly. Can anyone help me out?
