starting issue??

Hey guys, just a quick question this starting issue has been killen me!!!

My wife has a 2004 grandprix 3.8 v6 gt1 model. (non S/C) 75,000 miles,. every so often atleast once day let's say she attempts to start the car, she turns the key to on, the fuel pump runs for a few seconds, she turns the key, it starts for like .3 secs and then dies, she does this a couple more times, before she has to apply bit of gas, then cranks the key and then it will start right up. To me this sounds like an innermitent fuel pump issue, but it's been doing this for a year or so or since 40.000 miles, A new pump is FREAKEN EXPENSIVE!!! Any help would be great.........thank you.....

RE: starting issue??

the 3800s are cold blooded in nature. My car kinda reminds me of my dirtbike before I uncorked and re-jetted it in the fact that it takes about 5-8 revolutions before it starts first thing in the morning. It starts, run for a sec, and then shuts off often too and thats with a healthy battery. My moms 03 does the same thing so I've just chalked it up to being the nature of the beast.

I also notice that within the first 10 min of operation the torque converter locks up at a higher RPM than normal...that may have something to do with not the motor being sensitive to stalling under load when its cold.

My 04 has done this for the past year also. Had my mechanic check out and fuel pressure ok but at the time he didn't have 04 codes. Gets to be irritating. I can't beleive it's the "nature of the beast" with fuel injection.

I've run into a few instances where this bevior was a result of the anti-theft system. Have you eliminated that possibility?
