1968 Lemans

Hey I have a 1968 Pontiac Lemans. It is in pretty good contidion and runs good. I recently put on an edelbrock 4 barrel with the 350 thats in it. that helped a little but i'm still looking to get more power out of it, i'm getting really sick of all the stupid little imports wanting to race and I really want to show them the power of a V8. So if anyone has any pointers on some on some not too expencive upgrades that would be great

RE: 1968 Lemans

The older 350's have good heads- a valve job, s/s valves, and some minor bowl and port work with a decent high lift cam will wake a 350 up. You also need to put headers and a 2 1/2" dual exhaust to take advantage of the cam. Don't forget to switch to polylocks to make the valvetrain adjustable, as the stock bottle neck studs and rocker arm nuts tightened down for a stock cam will just bend pushrods with an aftermarket cam.

The best performance heads are 67-71 D-ports- no. 12, 13, 16, 48,62, 670- all of these have 2.11/1.77 valves, screw-in studs, 72cc chambers, and decent port design. A cam with around 215 dur. @.050, 270 advertised dur. and .460" lift will make at least 300 hp with a 625cfm 4 bbl, headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust. I'm building a 350 with ported no.48s, a 750 Holley vac. sec., Crane 272H cam, Hooker comps na 2 1/2" duals- this motor should make 325-350 hp easy.
