02 grand am gt battery drain
 

I have a problem with my car.i was told by a automotive electrcian that there was a short in the amp in the radio.so i bought a radio off of ebay.went to install and have some trouble but after that i intalled the fuse that goes to the radio amp and trunk release.with the radio out of car and fuse in the panel it drains my battery all the way down. and then will not start without jumping it off.i am thinking that i have a short somewhere but i don't have a clue. maybe someone can help please.

You need to connect an ammeter in series with the negative post of the battery. Look at the meter and observe the amount of amp draw. It should not be over 100 miliamps. Pull one fuse at a time until the exces drain goes away. That is the circuit causeing the drain. That fuse might feed the radio, the trunk light, glove box light and whatever else the maufacturer designed into the circuit. Pull the bulb out of the trunk and see if the drain goes away. The trunk switch might be defective, meaning the switch contacts are always closed meanign the switch is always on. You will need a wiring schematic to really dig deep into your problem. We maechanics don't get paid enough for what we need to know.
