hello all..problems with my ga. it started out with a misfire. i replaced the coils,module,boots,plugs..still had misfire. replaced the cam and crank sensors, still had misfire. replaced injectors and fuel filter still had misfire. replaced fuel pressure regulator and still had problem. replaced coil housing and fixed the problem but now the car dies when it reaches operating temp. it will idle for up to 4 hrs but when i goose the throttle or press the throttle it dies and wont restart until it cools down,usually overnight. i reaplced the fuel pump and coolant temp sensor and still have the dying problem..only things im not sure about is that i've been told there is a grounding wire or strap under the coil cover but when i replaced the coils i didnt see and wire or strap. and when i replaced the crank sensor i broke a wire lead off the starter but i installed a new wire connector but when i did that the dying problem started..is it possible i connected a wire in the wrong place on the starter??? im thinking of a new battery and looking into getting a new ecm in hopes this fixes the problem.. and ideas or suggestions??

ok replaced the battery and still have the same issue with it dying..any other ideas or suggestions????

no cel..but i do have to cycle the key off and on a few times and crank it over a few times to get it to start..but it does start and will idle as long as i dont goose the throttle when it reaches operating temp it wont die then but i cant drive it

ok well finally got the problem fixed..i took it to a shop and was told that all the tests were pointing to the ign. module so i put the old one back on and lo and behold problem of it dying was cured but still had the misfire..so today i replaced the coils with the old ones...i kept most of everything i replaced just in case..good thing i did...the old coils work like new and so does the old module..runs like new again...

well now that i have the first problem fixed..my check oil light comes on at first start up . i shut it off and start up again and it goes out..there is plenty of oil in the crank case..is there a way to reset the light?? or do i need to replace something like a sensor?

My 95 Grand Am had a similar problem. I remember it would stay on for days, even with regular starting and restarting and other times the light would turn off if I shut the motor off and restarted it right away. And still other times I wouldn't have any trouble with the light whatsoever...lol.

Edit: After writing this I do remember it coming on a couple times while driving, even though the oil level was perfect.//

I didn't think too much of it at the time, as I checked and changed the oil regularly and the car had never shown to burn or leak any oil. However after I sold the car to my sister the light came on while she was driving one day and she checked the oil and according to her, the dipstick indicated it was 2 quarts low. With no sign of a leak of any kind, she filled the car with 2 quarts of oil and the light went out. A couple days later she brought the car over to my place. Turns out she had over filled it by 1 quart, but thankfully at the time she hadn't driven it enough to pop a seal. There was still the issue of where the other quart that she had replaced went. The car over the time I had owned it (only about 8K miles - I didn't drive it much) had a number of mechanical repairs including the, radiator, thermostat, head and manifold gaskets, and water pump, also the car had new tires, brakes and shocks/struts. When I sold her the car I told her it was old and she should drive it easily and not "all over town". Turns out she drove it in her first 3 weeks of ownership 2400 miles (haha) and ended up throwing a rod. End of story...did the check oil light have anything to do with the eventual death of the engine? I don't know lol.

well i think i need to replace the oil level sensor..now i have a backfire when i shift im thinking i need a o2 ..i replace the up stream one but not the down stream one yet...ill let you know how it goes..
