RE: Engine cranks, won't turn over
The term cranks and turn over are one in the same. The crankshaft is turning. You have crank but no start. You need four things for an engine to start
1. Air 2. Spark 3. Fuel 4. Compression. To check for spark: Pull a spark plug wire, hold a screwdriver in the sparkplug wire end and hold it 1/2 inch from a good metal ground. Should see a yellow to purpulish colored spark. Caution: If you arn't comfotrable doing this, get it done by a repair shop. You could get hit with 50 thousand volts. They also sell spark testers at your local auto part supply house. Takes the worry out of getting shocked. Highly recomend getting one. Remove a spark plug out and check forfuelon theplug. Wet is good, as you are getting fuel. Look at the air cleaner filter and hoses connecting to the induction system for blockage. Usually not theproblem. If the engine cranks with no discernable change in sound or speed, you might have a compression problem. Perform a compression test. Let me know how you make out. Dave |
