Engine removal
I have a 2005 that apparently blew a head gasket (coolant in the oil) so I plan to pull the engine to rebuild or replace it.
I have read several posts regarding engine removal with a fairly healthy debate about pulling the engine out the top vs. dropping the subframe. I am currently planning to pull it out the top and hope to leave the power steering and A/C systems intact on the vehicle. However, before I commit to that approach I would appreciate any insight forum members may be able to provide regarding this approach. |
It appears I am on the right track. Finally recieved my shop service manuals yesterday and engine removal as I described is what is described leaving the A/C compressor in the chassis. I already removed the alternator and alternatormounting bracket which are not part of the service manual procedure but it will provide more clearance, although I do need to mount the engine lifting bracket that was sandwiched in the alternator bracket mounting.

Engine was pulled over the weekend. No real problems/surprises other than the typical exhaust mounting nuts and some wiring that was running through a harness clip that was still attached to the engine.
Next up is tearing the engine down to determine if its rebuildable. |
