67 GP shuts off when hot

My ;67 GP 400/TH400 was stalling when hot. Will not go into reverse without stalling (when hot). I felt the torque converter was hanging up so I changed that for a new stock converter. The car has a Butler performance water pump and new radiator, but it still runs around 200 - 220 degrees. I put a HEI ignition on it. The car starts very well. It runs very well. When it stalls, it re-starts with just a bump of the starter. Today I noticed when it did stall, the temp gauge was around 220.Any ideas??
Vapor lock? I have all the lines and filters heat shielded.
Has anyone heard about these Chinese HEI distributors shutting down when hot? Would it re-start so easy if that was the problem??
Hoping someone here can point me in a direction.

Did this start just after the new HEI install? My thought is that the ignition timing may be set too far in advance, which will elevate operating temps of the engine. Vacuum advance working correctly? Maybe try installing the old distributor to see what happens.

Well, first, thank you for your reply. I bought the car on Ebay, sight unseen. When it was delivered it would not start to drive off the car carrier. The dealer didn't want to let me know it had a blown head gasket. So I had to do several repairs right away. And one of them was to change the dizzy to HEI. I never drove the car with the points distributor. But I'm thinking I should try that. I did set the timing to spec, at idle. But now to keep from stalling at traffic lights, I have the idle at 750 in gear. Spec says about 500 RPM should be right. But it does want to run hot, so I'll look at the timing again.
Thank you for the lead.
