Faulty Front Passenger Air Bag Sensor - 08 Grand Prix

On certain occasions, the front passenger air bag sensor on my 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix turns the airbag "off" even though an adult of suitable weight who is properly seated in the seat is present. The problem is usually (but now always) corrected when the vehicle is turned off and restarted. Two dealerships were unable to diagnose, detect and correct the problem since it is intermittent. This problem exposes the front adult passenger to serious injury or death if an accident occurs and the air bag is not activated because of this faulty sensor. Help!!

RE: Faulty Front Passenger Air Bag Sensor - 08 Grand Prix

i cannot believe the dealership can't find it! the air bag has its own diagnostic box. in my other car this happened and it was an intermittent thing also.it turned out to be a short to a ground wire in the wire harness.the ground was not alway present so for safety it blows the fuse so the air bag will not deploy while just cruising down the road. you should probably start your research in the area of a shorted out ground wire.it is not as hard as it sounds, just start following wires around under the hood goin to the firewall and look at each spot that is bolt to the chassis.or take it to the dealership and ask them to take a second look at ground wires.good luck
