Can Am vs Escort
My ride: while not an F-body, it shared the 1977 Trans-Ams powertrain.
1977 Pontiac Lemans Can Am. T/A 6.6 or 400 CI engine. Mods: Ram Air III heads and cam, 3.90 rear, performance shift kit on the trans, headers, dual exhaust, functional shaker scoop. I have been told that it will run mid-13's in the quarter. Car visually, is completly stock except for the obvious lope from the cam. Up until this point I have never had anyone call me out to race it. I have had many a Mustang owner pull up next to me with no interest in trying me. Anway to the race. About a week ago I was driving my 77 Lemans Can Am around town with my mom and her two sisters. My mom's sisters were visiting and I wanted to show them my car since they never had a ride in it. Anyway we come to a four-way intersection and our lane is going to merge. I normally do not go in the right lane because of this, but I guess I was not paying attention. A couple of guys pull up next to me with a 1998-2005 or so Ford Escort. Looked completely stock and the two guys in it looked incapable of tuning anything much less a car. Anyways the driver starts revving his car and I give him the "you got to be kidding look." I shouted to him that this was a bad decision he was about to make. When the light turned green I left easy and he was just keeping up with me, but our lane was going to merge. So I nailed it and just flat out left him behind us. Now I have no idea what possesses somone to do this. http://www.fbodyonline.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif Did he think that I would not take off because maybe my mom was in the car? Did he think that a big car with four people in it was slower than his Escort? When we got to the next light, neither of them would even look at us. |
