Default changing left front axle

Hello all,
I just found your forum and hope you can help me. I need to change mom & dad's '92 Bonneville left front axle, because the inner boot is wrecked. Is this pretty straight forward and about 1/2 days project? any help would be greatly appreciated. I usually work on Fords and Dodge vans, but there Bonneville needs work now, so... any help you can give me would be great.
thanks much.
Micheal

Default RE: changing left front axle

Changing the axle is pretty easy. You need to take the axle nut off. I believe it is a 34mm nut. They are on there pretty tight. If you dont have access to air tools, then you will need a LARGE breaker bar to get the nut off. Push the axle through the hub. You can use a puller from Autozone to do that. Then you need to disconnect the lower ball joint and remove the brake caliper to that you can swing the strut out of the way and push the end of the axle out of the hub. Use a large pry bar to pry the axle out of the transmission. It should just pop out. Then just reverse procedure. It is very important that you get the axle nut TIGHT. It needs to be close to 200 ft lbs. Get a larger pipe on the end ouf your ratchet and reef on that thing. If you dont get it tight enough you can ruin the bearing.
