Default 00 GRAND AM 2.4

i have a 2000 grand am 2.4. i rebuild the engine on it and put it back in. everything was fine and it started first try. once it warmed up a loud clacking noise started like i had a few really really worn lifters. took me a while and i figured out what was causing the noise but not why. the timing chain is slapping the timing chain guard between the two cam sprockets.

when it first starts up it sounds perfect. once it reaches normal operating temperature it starts smacking and making the loud noise. i replaced the tensioner, and the chain, and the timing is all lined up (ive checked 3 times). i think it has something to do with the timing but there is no distributor to play with the timing. anyone know how to adjust it??? or has anyone had the same proble?
