Default sunfire

Hi, my 2002 sunfire wont change gears and i suspect it may be a transmission problem, the speedometer is also not working and the check engine light is on. What may be the problem or has anyone had a similar problem with their sunfire?

the speedo works by means of a sensor in the tranny. If youre having a trans issue, im not surprised that the speedo wont work. when you say that it wont change gears, do you mean that you can physically move the shifter to D, but it wont leave first?

If the speedo isn't working that means the PCM(computer) isn't getting a speed signal from the speed sensor(s). The PCM then defaults the trany to normally 2nd gear. It is different depending on which trany it has. Which means it will only use 2nd gear no matter what. Since the check engine light is on there will be a code stored and whoever you take it to to work on it will be able to figure it out farely easily.
