Default Ignition problem

I have a 1990 Pontiac sunbird LE with manual transmission. When I start the car the speedometer needle moves up and down while cranking the engine also my dome light will flash off and on while starting the car. While the car is off I noticed the battery is running down, I was wondering if I have a bad ignition switch?

Sounds like you have a hot wire draining your battery, Take the neg_ cable off and touch it to the bat to see if it sparks, Make sure the door are closed and the switch is off, If you see a spark something is touch a hot wire or ground. CK your dome light make sure it is ok, CK the door buttons on both sides that cuts the dome light on and off. When it comes to shorts in wires I am lost. Good luck. I would CK the wires going to your starter, Don't sound like a ignition switch to me.

Welcome to Pontiactalk..
