Default engine tick question

i am looking at buying a 1995 sunfire with 170 K miles. its a 5 speed manual and i believe its a 2.2 L engine. the guy said it has a slight tick in the motor and he was told it was his rocker arms. im afriad that the tick is the camshaft lobes being worn down or something with the valve adjustment. if its the cam or valve adjustment would it throw out a code telling you what it is?? or is there a way to check and see what the tick is? i really need help my current vehicle is failing fast.

Default RE: engine tick question

The only way to be sure would be to crack the engine open and look. But it most likely is the rocker arms.
