Default '99 Sunfire Coolant Light is on

My coolant light is on, there is evidence of leaking on the garage floor, and engine running hot while idleing.

Mechanic said that the "bypass hose" is leaking and I should replace the thermostat.

I can't find a part called the "bypass hose" does anyone know what he is talking about? If so, where is it? Or what is he talking about? And, pleasedon't tell me it is the one that is leaking as i can't see a leak, just fluid on the floor of the garage.

Where on the engine is the Thermostat? I feel confident that i can replace both of these on my own for under 100 bucks. He said he would charge me $260!!!!

Thanks,
